Here is a monument in Prospect Park dedicated to Marquis de Lafayette. This overachiever managed to participate in both America's Revolution and France's.
I saw this plaque at the Bronx Zoo. I looked it up, and it turns out that one of the founders of this society also worked at the Bronx Zoo. Not only that, but the zoo is also where they moved some bison back in the day in order to preserve them. It's thanks in part to the Bronx Zoo that we still have bison in this world.
Randall's Island used to be two islands, but the small waterway between them was filled in. The island has some other stuff on it, but it's mostly parkland.
I saw this Northern Flicker in Riverside Park. They're not particularly rare birds, but you don't often see them in New York City, so I was surprised to see this one just hanging out on the ground.
